POR is a construction material for lunar habitats made from human waste.
Waste management on current space missions still depends on earth to resupply material and incinerate the waste, making deep space exploration impossible. POR addresses this problem by proposing a closed-loop system that brings human waste back into mission habitats as a radiation shield material. This system would allow space missions to be independent from Earth. POR uses regenerative life support technologies from NASA to effectively process human waste into repurposed plastic. Using water and the new repurposed plastic as construction materials, a vascular system for shielding radiation was developed. This leaf-inspired structure allows water to distribute evenly and provides mechanical resilience for a lunar colony.
