PedalTap

PedalTap is a hands-free foot operated water-dispensing device that improves hand hygiene, reduces infection and minimizes water waste.

The device is designed to be retrofittable and affordable: it can be installed on any existing tap with minimal effort and cost. During the Ebola outbreak in West Africa, hand washing facilities were set up at the entrances of public spaces, but one had to touch these taps to wash their hands making it unsafe and causing risk of infection. PedalTap addressing this problem by removing the need to touch the tap at all. The user steps on the pedal to make the water flow and releases to stop it. This simple change reduces risk of infection and water waste.
