Cactunes is an experimental project that stretches the limits of the smart home by infusing it with a sense of humour.

Rather than accept the assumption that automated home appliances will increase efficiency and safety, Cactunes questions whether our increasingly intimate relationship with gadgets can make life less logical and more magical. By equipping household cactus plants with sensors and audio devices, they are transformed into musical instruments. These newly ‘smart’ plants challenge our ingrained assumption against touching cacti and reveal a small piece of the hidden potential of home automation.
