Bolle

About

A communal kitchen for connecting cultures

Bolle is a DIY kitchen on wheels, designed for intercultural cooking experiences that can take place anywhere. The kitchen was designed for Über den Tellerrand e.V., an organization that arranges cooking and eating experiences to encourage exchange between migrants and natives. Bolle is a handcart-kitchen that can be activated anywhere with stable plug connections. Up to eight people can fit around Bolle’s gas cooker, while they engage in an interactive and social cooking experience standing in a circle. Once the cooking is finished, the unit’s height can lowered to allow for seated dining. Bolle’s design and assembly instructions are open-source, making it available to any community that wants it.

Ute is an Industrial Designer from Cologne. Just as much as the design, she is interested in the story around a product: What should the product and brand express? Which added value can the product generate for the user, the industry and the environment and how can we achieve it? Which economic, ecological and social impact can the product have? Which impacts are desirable and which are not? For this reason I see design as an interdisciplinary challenge where the idea, the implementation and the communication is equally relevant. During her studies at the University of Wuppertal and at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit she has worked in different design fields such as digital and printed advertisement, interface design and photography. With her Project Bolle she was nominated for the German Newcomer Design Award. Currently she works as an Industrial Designer at squareone GmbH in Düsseldorf.more
