Sonostapp

This leg uses sound to make walking easier

Sonostapp is a prosthetic limb designed to provide people with a lower extremity amputation with an alternative sensory stimulus. Using a thin insole between the shoe and the foot, it measures the applied pressure underneath a prosthetic leg. This information is communicated to the user via audio feedback, which helps improve their balance while walking, to unwind their foot in a natural way and to learn how to weight-load each leg.

    Ineke Neutelings graduated recently from the faculty of Industrial Design at Eindhoven University of Technology. During her education she developed an interest for design in the social and medical field. She worked for and together with a variety of user groups, e.g. visually impaired, hearing impaired, elderly, prematures and amputees. She is a very empathic designer who tries to put herself in the place of the user. She just started her PhD on the topic of patient engagement, part-time at the TU/e and part-time at Philips Design.more
