Sanctum is an advanced system for the transportation of donor hearts. It builds upon the 'Organ Care System,’ a method designed by Transmedics to keep organs in a warm, functioning state outside of the body. Sanctum improves the process of cannulation, providing a better connection of tubes to the heart vessels and allowing the imitation of blood flow. This enables the connected tubes to engage immediately and automatically with the heart's system of circulation. The flexible chassis of the Sanctum system allows it be quickly folded to slide into the back of a car, or compressed and lifted into an aircraft, cutting out time-consuming tampering, and enabling the prompt and smooth transportation of donor hearts, increasing the number of accessible patients.
