Epione

About

A gaming system to support healing and encourage communication for victims of violence

Survivors of sexual violence can often feel overwhelmed and the healing process can be long and complicated, often over-looking the needs of partners who are also affected by the trauma. Epione is a game that supports the survivors of sexual assault and their partners in their shared healing journey. It consists of a grounding device that helps couples cope with overwhelming moments and a card game that encourages communicating boundaries. Breathing exercises and synchronising heart rates using ambient lighting and pulse sensors are ways that the game can help with in this process.

I am a Hong Kong researcher, designer, and strategist interested in empowering people through design and technology. At the London School of Economics and Political Science, I studied operational research - a discipline that models real-world problems through mathematics and behavioural science. This taught me to better understand people’s behaviors and rationales behind their decisions in a methodological way. Before pivoting into design, I spent eight years at investment bank Goldman Sachs solving different problems. Through gathering insights from clients and designing business solutions, I came to recognize the power of research, storytelling, and design. Intrigued by how this could be applied to other problems, I decided to swap the trading floor for a place at Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design (CIID) to learn about crafting interactions between people and complex systems. At CIID, I explored a wide range of socially relevant problems with a focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goals from designing wearable technology to tackle femicide in Latin America to creating an ecosystem of readily available edible plants in urban communities. more
