As the next generation of designers we would like to challenge you, to re-envision packaging design as an environmentally friendly practice. We ask that you examine an array of techniques and methodologies for creating innovative and sustainable packaging designs - from concept to final production.
Think of how packaging looks and impacts our world today and what you would like to see in the future for a more sustainable and regenerated world. A package can be a bottle, a bag, a box, or even a capsule.

1. The “Design Challenge” (‘Programme’) is brought to you by Pepsi-Cola International Limited, a company incorporated in Bermuda with representative office located at Level 3, Building no 2, Emaar Square, PO Box 11330, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, in association with Art Dubai Fair FZ LLC Dubai Design District, Building 7, Floor 4, Office 403, PO Box 72645, Dubai, UAE (hereinafter collectively referred to as ‘Organizers’).
The Programme is valid from 16th November, 2017 till 18th April, 2018 (“Programme Period”). The Organizers may, in their absolute discretion, curtail or extend the Programme Period, as they may deem necessary without any liability whatsoever.
The Programme is open to the “Global Grad Show” exhibiting Students (“Participants”) , an exhibition of groundbreaking works from the world’s leading design schools, held each year as part of Dubai Design Week representing 91 of the world’s best design schools, from 40 countries on 6 continents and shall not include employees and contractors working with the Organizers, its Affiliate companies, including any company in which the Organizers have equity interests, its joint ventures and joint venture partners, its contract- manufacturers, bottlers, its advertising and promotion agencies and its auditors.
For the purpose of this Programme, “Affiliate” will mean any business entity which controls, or is controlled by, or is under common control with, a party where control will mean ownership, either directly or indirectly, of more than 50% of the ownership interests representing the equity, the voting stock, or general partnership interest of that business entity.
2. The Programme
The theme of the Programme is innovative sustainable packaging design. The aim is to re-envision packaging design as a more environmentally friendly practice. The challenge is to create the future of packaging, how can a package be desirable and attractive from a design stand point yet sustainable for the wellness of today’s world and an even better tomorrow. A package can be a bottle, a bag, a box, or even a capsule.
The participants will need to examine an array of techniques and methodologies for creating innovative and sustainable packaging designs - from first concept to final production.
3. Prize the Winner will get a chance to travel to the PepsiCo Design and Innovation Center in New York.

Brendan McGetrick, an independent writer, editor and designer and the curator of the Global Grad Show. His work has appeared in publications in over twenty countries, including Wired, Art review, Domus and Vogue Nippon. His project, Unnamed Design, in collaboration with Ai Weiwei was voted best contemporary design exhibition by the New-York Times.
William Knight, the Managing Director and Head of Design of Art Dubai Group. In 2004, he joined the London Festival Ltd as Deputy Director. In 2012, he moved to Media 10 managing a portfolio of design trade events including 100 % Design, the UK’s largest and longest running trad show, and Clerkenwell Design Week which was recently announced as the highest ranked UK design event in Dezeen’s Hot List.
Mauro Porcini, Chief Design Officer – Pepsico. In this newly created position, Mauro is infusing design thinking into PepsiCo’s culture and is leading a new approach to innovation by design that impacts the company’s product platforms and brands. Mauro sits on the Board of Directors of the Design Management Institute, on the Board of Directors of the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce and on the advisory council of other design and art institutions.
5. Programme Timelines-
6.The Organizers shall publish the details of the Programme along with these terms and conditions and update the dates (if required) on www.globalgradshow.com PepsiCo Design Challenge webpage (“Website”),and the Participants shall be required to regularly check for updates to ensure they have read and understood these terms and conditions for participating in the Programme, to make timely submissions. The Organizers will be under no obligation to personally inform each Participant of the dates to submit the required information/ documents. Failure to make submissions by the required date as published by the Organizers, will lead to disqualification at the sole discretion of the Organizers and the Organizers shall have no liability towards the Participants in such cases. The decision of the Organizers shall be final and no communications will be entertained from the Participants in this regard.

Organizers will take appropriate measures during the gathering of Participants' personal information, including encoding, to ensure and prevent as far as possible, any unauthorized or illegal access to or exploitation of such personal information.
By participating in the Programme, the Participants agree that their personal information may be shared with any of Organizers’ Affiliates worldwide for promotional and communication activities as well as with third parties that are directly involved in the development and promotion of the Programme.
